A self-taught artist, Jonathan Graves graduated from Dartmouth College in 1980 and soon after embarked on a career in advertising and publishing with a start as a Creative Consultant to McGraw-Hill. He later went on to found two advertising agencies, one on either coast. He eventually wound up on an small island in Puget Sound where the NH native took up woodcarving on a full-time basis. In November of 2003 Graves and his wife, Nancy, and son Ian immigrated to Canada where they today live on Grand Manan Island at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy in the Province of New Brunswick. “This is a fabulous place to be an artist. There is so much wildlife and landscape to inspire a person. I look out my window and see seal playing out in the cove, a pair of bald eagles perches on an offshore rock within view of my living room, and the deer and fawns are regular visitors. You can’t help but marvel at it all and be grateful.” When he is not carving or painting, Graves is a licensed Realtor, and shares his love of antique homes and vintage architecture with visitors to the island.
